Na de MotoGP en Moto2 klasse zal er zoals het er nu naar uit ziet ook een Moto3 klasse gaan komen en daarmee zal in 2012 de laatste tweetaktklasse de nek omgedraaid gaan worden want de voor deze klasse beoogde 250cc viertakt machines zullen de huidige 125cc klasse gaan vervangen.

heeft er alle schijn van dat we in 2012 niet alleen de vernieuwde MotoGP klasse in actie zullen zien maar ook een nieuwe viertakt klasse die dan de huidige 125cc klasse zou gaan vervangen.<br /> <br /> Het zou in dit geval gaan om 250cc viertakt eencilinder machines waarbij de klasse dan geen kopie moet worden van de Moto2 klasse maar dat de keuze voor het motorblok en het frame vrij is. Er zijn momenteel al meerdere initiatieven voor de 250cc eencilinder machines waarbij ook in ons eigen Open Nederlands kampioenschap in de 125cc wordt geëxperimenteerd met deze 250cc viertakten. Brian Slooten en Ricardo van den Brink zijn op deze machines actief.
Zo heeft Moriwaki met de MD250H een voor deze klasse geschikte machine in elkaar gezet, waarmee men in 2011 in Nederland wil gaan racen (zie <a target="_blank" href="https://www.racesport.nl/nieuwsbericht.php?id=23375">dit artikel</a>). Daarnaast gaan er geruchten dat Honda bezig is met een eencilinder moto die getest zou zijn in een 125cc rijwielgedeelte waarmee ze op het circuit van Motegi al een stukje sneller waren dan een 125cc Grand Prix machines.<br /> <br /> Het idee achter deze nieuwe klasse is uiteraard kostenbesparing want de viertakten zouden weer goedkoper moeten kunnen zijn dan de huidige 125cc machines maar daarnaast is er ook de angst dat de 125cc te veel te lijden zou hebben van de nieuwe en populaire Moto2 klasse en men door deze nieuwe Moto3 klasse de teams meer mogelijkheden zou geven.<br />
